Why Daily Self-Care Should Never Be Optional Plus 4 Ways to Practice It

Self-care is something that more and more of us seem to forget to practice. Life gets crazy, and we are too tired at the end of the day to do anything other than go to bed. Others may feel guilty about practicing self-care and feel that they need to be devoting their time to their little ones at home or taking care of others instead.

However, I’m sure you have heard about the importance of taking care of yourself as well! If you don’t take care of you, you certainly cannot take care of others, or at least at the level you would want to. Daily self-care is not selfish, and it should never be optional. Not only is it necessary for mental health, but it can make you a better you for yourself and everyone you love around you.

So, here are four ways you can practice daily self-care, even if you live a super busy lifestyle.

4 Ways to Practice Daily Self-Care

#1 Get Up 10 Minutes Earlier: If you are like much of the rest of us, you probably find that there just aren’t enough hours in the day. If you don’t think you could ever have time to practice daily self-care, think again. If you set your alarm clock for just ten minutes earlier each day, you can have ten minutes to yourself in peace and quiet. This is a great time to start your day by sipping on a cup of herbal tea, like our Holy Basil adaptogenic tea, or doing a quick ten-minute yoga or meditation routine. You would be surprised what ten minutes to yourself can do to set the tone for a more productive day.

#2 Take Breaks: If you are used to running around all day long, try to be mindful of when you give yourself a break. Even if it’s just five minutes to sit down and take a breather or refuel on some nutritious food, try to take a couple of breaks in between your busy day.

#3 Exercise: Exercise is so great for both mental and physical health. If you can make it a daily habit to get some form of exercise in, you will feel so much better! You don’t have to spend an hour in the gym or go to an hour long fitness class. Simply taking a bike ride or a brisk walk is enough to get the blood flowing and can help clear your mind.

#4 Keep Your Blood Sugar Levels Up: Taking a look at what you eat each day is an excellent way to practice self-care. Try to make it a habit to enjoy breakfast before you head out the door and to pack yourself a nourishing lunch. Packing snacks in your bag like nuts and seeds is also a great way to make sure you are keeping your blood sugar levels up which is essential for health and overall mood.

Don’t make self-care optional. Be sure to practice it each day and take care of yourself. The better you take care of yourself, the better you can take care of others and handle the other responsibilities in your life. A little self-care goes a long way!
