Here’s Why a Regular Yoga Schedule May Boost Mental Health

Mental health is so important, and here at Dr. Vim’s it’s something we take seriously. We want you to feel your best both mentally and physically, which is why we want to talk about the benefits of yoga and mental health.

Yoga has so many amazing health benefits. From boosting flexibility to increasing muscle strength, and decreasing stress, yoga does it all.

Let’s take a look at why a regular yoga schedule may help boost your mental health and improve overall quality of life.

Benefits of Yoga For Mental Health

Yoga can benefit mental health for a handful of reasons. For one, it can help ease stress, help you focus on your breath, and reduce tension in the body. It can also help balance the nervous system, helping get you out of a chronic state of fight-or-flight. (1)

Yoga has also been found to boost GABA levels, which is a chemical in the brain that may help to regulate nerve activity, and ease anxiety. (2

Many people also find that adding some yoga into their day-to-day life just helps center them, especially after a busy day at work. Doing some evening yoga may also help improve sleep habits as well, which is another important part of supporting mental health.

Start Your Own Yoga Routine

There are so many reasons yoga makes a great addition to your current fitness routine, or to help ease stress and anxiety. Want to add more yoga into your life? Here are some tips to get more yoga into your day to day life.

  • Start your day with a 15-minute yoga practice

  • Do 10 minutes of yoga on your lunch break
  • Wind down your day with an evening yoga routine
  • Try out a local yoga class
  • Get your yoga in with our friend Adriene from Yoga With Adriene with one of her YouTube yoga workouts (free!)

Bonus Tip: If you are looking for a way to balance stress levels, adding an adaptogenic herb blend like Yinergy or Vigor along with regular yoga can be extremely beneficial. Adaptogens can help balance cortisol levels, help your body adapt to stress, and just help you feel a bit more centered.
